In the Oasis of the Duke of Stars

WATCHING “Homes with Style” on TV a few days ago in hopes of gathering professional home staging tips which I could suggest to a friend in search of a company to help her sell a 10-year-old bungalow in Phoenix AZ, I chanced upon a feature on the cool oasis of fashion designer Randolph Duke a.k.a. The Duke of Stars. Although the tropical concept of Duke’s home is totally his own, he collaborated with some interior home designers to come up with a polished look for his abode.
Randolph Duke — known for his beautifully sculpted creations that Hollywood’s A-list wear to practically every prestigious Tinseltown event such as the Academy Awards — has dressed the likes of Sharon Stone, Lisa Kudrow, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Sarah McLachlan, Minnie Driver, Jennifer Lopez, and Angelina Jolie among others. With the notion he moves around expensive fabrics, beautiful women on the catwalk, close to perfect figures, and a flashy lifestyle, his serene home came as a surprise to me.
Teeming with exquisite wooden furniture such as a long bamboo dining table strewn with potted cacti, bamboo drums that serve as corner tables in the living area, massive sofas, and huge intricately designed fish ornaments on the wall, Duke’s house is just fantabulous.
Although there are many fashion designers as good (or far better) as Duke in designing gowns and choosing to die for fabrics and accessories, not all of them take quality time to study a woman’s body to know what would suit her. Perhaps, this approach of Duke in fashion designing is also what he used in choosing the elements he blended into his New York home.
Lots of greens, wood and other Mother Earth elements excellently worked in producing a wondrous beach house for the designer who’s constantly busy tailing the stars and prepping them up for a long list of important events.
