No courtesan can steal the limelight from AI 8

WHILE sharing some of the things I have researched about one of American Idol 8s Top 36, Scott McIntyre, and his incredible talent, I happened to mention he’s won in various international music competitions in the US and Canada. Upon the mention of the latter, my friends shifted the conversation to Vancouver escorts and how they can’t get enough of a courtesan in Vancouver. A courtesan or Vancouver escort belongs to a group of beautiful and intelligent ladies whom, these guys say, they would choose over their girlfriends. An escort in Vancouver is common in talks but it won’t veer me from the AI topic.

Aside from Scott’s heartfelt performance of Bruce Hornsby’s Mandolin Rain, my other favorite was Lil Rounds’ impressive take on Mary J. Blige’s Be Without You, which earned the judges’ nods instantly. Matter of fact, each had one big word to describe her performance. Simon Cowell called it brilliant, Kara DioGuardi uttered “powerhouse” and Paula Abdul said it was “first-class.”

Paula even wittingly added, “I have a sneaking suspicion we’re going to be seeing you for many more lil’ rounds.”

There was not much surprises in this batch of 12 performers because they are undoubtedly the cream of the crop. Von Smith kicked off the program with his rendition of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell original titled You’re All I Need To Get By. I love this song but I’m not a huge fan of Von. He was all right though not outstanding. The judges liked the fact that he picked a good song and that he obviously enjoyed  performing it onstage. His getup and overall appearance, however, reminded Simon Cowell of Clay Aiken. Von didn’t see this a bad thing considering the fame that Clay is currently basking in.

Junot Joyner’s manner of incorporating his RnB flavor into Plain White T’s Hey There Delilah also earned praises but the judges found the song too safe for him. Besides, he already performed this at his Hollywood stint.

Of the 12 performers, I find Jorge Nunez with the most sincere heart. After his performance of Elton John’s Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me, the judges did not seem to have enough words to describe what they have just witnessed. Simon told Jorge he is a “very, very good singer” but it was Kara’s words that made him cry. The moment she said he was born to sing, tears of joy rolled down his cheeks and he expressed his happiness in Spanish.

I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed for Lil Rounds, Scott McIntyre and Jorge Nunez.

Writing about music and other showbiz stuff used to be fun, but since moving to a company whose nature is distant from showbiz, I realized writing about extensive topics or subjects is where the thrill lies. I understand some writers prefer to write about their object of interest. That's good, but nothing beats touching on all aspects of life. By doing so, I experience life as it is.
